LSS provides a "stop over" place for full time missionaries working in Mexico or along the frontera who need a place to stay for a night or two while going in and out of the country. We also make them available for one week, twice a year, booked in advance, so missionary families can have a vacation. The duplexes are for our missionary families only and not available for group use. They are meant to give the full time servants of our Lord a period of rest, relaxation, peace and rejuvination so they can go back refreshed and ready to face the challanges of the field with a fresh perspective and energy. The two duplexes we have are the Leyendecker House and the Mosure House with future plans for 8 more units.
Welcome to Leyendecker House!
This duplex was dedicated to the mother of our president and founder, Randy Leyendecker. Mrs. Virginia Leyendecker was a loving wife, mother and teacher who loved the Lord and used the talents of teaching that He gave her to positively impact the lives of others.
Kitchen/dining area. Having a kitchen included gives our missionaries the option of eating on their own as a family or coming over and joining us in the main building. We know ourselves that just being able to kick back and have a meal as a family without intrusion can be a treat!
The next two pictures are our living room area. Plans are in the works to add a television and put in Sky Angel for our missionary's enjoyment. Since this is used for a break or vacation, we all know sometimes we just want to sit back and enjoy a good movie or program. Not having much "American" T.V. in Mexico, they enjoy 'catching up' on things. Most of them really just want to watch the news for a while and see what's going on in their own country in their own language! Speaking from personal experience, it's also a great place to relax and read a book and listen to praise tapes or take a short nap!
Directly ahead on the left is the bathroom. Next to that is the storage room. The two doors on the right lead to the bedrooms, master on the left, second bedroom on the right. Dining/kitchen area is to the back.
Here's the shower in the bathroom. The tile work is awesome and Jose did a great job for us! It's also one of the favorite features so far according to those who have stayed here! :)
Front view of the bathroom. We've also included "Uncle John's Book of 'Taking the plunge into Texas'" filled with all kinds of interesting facts of our great country of Texas for those who like to read in the bathroom! Don't laugh. Those of us with kids know this might be the only place you can get two minutes of peace and privacy!
Master Bedroom. Before this, we had to put our families in our missionary rooms, which are nice, but only sleep 4 at the most with the hide-a-bed, so for families with more than 2 kids they either had to sleep in a dorm room all together or be split up. It's nice to now be able to give the parents their own room and some privacy, but with the kids right next door and all in the same place.
While we appreciate donations of gently used items, we determined that everything we used in furnishing the duplex would be new and of good quality. Our missionaries usually come in very tired, not only in body but in spirit as well. We wanted to make sure that they were surrounded with the best and most comfortable we could afford. We also prayed over this duplex that those who stayed there would be surrounded with God's spirit of peace, comfort and healing. So far, it seems as if God is honoring that prayer!
